Wonder if Davidson will be the fall guy in Carolina

Updated Nov. 20, 2009 @ 2:24 p.m.
The sense I get is that John Fox, barring a total collapse down the stretch, will be the Panthers' coach next season. What his coaching staff looks like is another matter.

Steve Smith in minor car accident but is fine

Updated Nov. 19, 2009 @ 6:53 p.m.
Just got off the phone with agent Derrick Fox, who represents Panthers WR Steve Smith, and he is happy to report that Smith is fine after getting into a little fender bender on the way to the game tonight.

Jauron decision could lead to interesting front-office battle over replacement

Updated Nov. 17, 2009 @ 3:31 p.m.
Dick Jauron has been fired, and I can't say I am shocked. Now it's time to see how the men in charge will handle finding his long-term replacement.

Why is everyone crowing about disrespect?

Updated Nov. 17, 2009 @ 2 p.m.
NFL players make me laugh sometimes. They always say they don't get enough respect.

Mixed metaphors, but I just had a 'Top Gun' moment re: Belichick

Updated Nov. 16, 2009 @ 1:10 p.m.
I have been replaying the end of the Pats-Colts game in my head much of the night and am trying to wrap my head around it. I am past questioning the move and have moved onto why he did it.

Trying to sort out why Bill Belichick went for it at the end of the game

Updated Nov. 16, 2009 @ 1:52 a.m.
In Bill Belichick's long career, it's hard to question much of what he has done. But Sunday's game management at the end was hard to defend.

Whose 'crime' was worse: Mike Smith's or Ocho's?

Updated Nov. 14, 2009 @ 4:27 p.m.
The NFL felt that Chad Ochocinco's in-jest "bribe" attempt was no laughing matter. The NFL also levied a fine to Falcons coach Mike Smith for his involvement in the sideline scrap. It's the amounts of these fines that ...

Manning vs. Belichick: Football nerds collide again

Updated Nov. 12, 2009 @ 7:06 p.m.
Because the Colts and Patriots have waged the battle of the decade in the NFL, and because Tom Brady and Peyton Manning never actually face off on the field at the same time, you could boil down the rivalry to ...

NBC's Harrison sees Colts secondary 'in trouble'

Updated Nov. 11, 2009 @ 6:16 p.m.
Rodney Harrison has been a great hire for NBC. They were not looking for neutrality in journalism when they hired him. They wanted a lightning rod.

Falcons' Smith wasn't pulling a Woody Hayes vs. Hall

Updated Nov. 10, 2009 @ 5:19 p.m.
Without knowing what Falcons head coach Mike Smith said during a near riot on the Falcons' sideline Sunday, I still don't take much issue with the coach's involvement. Blame DeAngelo Hall if you want to point fingers.

This is why Brian Westbrook isn't playing tonight

Updated Nov. 08, 2009 @ 8:46 p.m.
The Eagles issued a statement from head trainer Rick Burkholder about why RB Brian Westbrook is not active tonight.

Tony Sparano is angry, and he has a right to be

Updated Nov. 08, 2009 @ 2:44 p.m.
Tom Brady got a gift from the home clock operator, I believe, and Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano was hot about it. I think he has every reason to be.

The Packers almost got Kapinos killed

Updated Nov. 08, 2009 @ 1:58 p.m.
Some really embarrassing punt protection just threatened Packers P Jeremy Kapinos' season.

Tommie Harris ejected vs. Cardinals

Updated Nov. 08, 2009 @ 1:51 p.m.
Tommie Harris' rough season continues. Sixty-five seconds into the game, he slugged Cardinals OG Deuce Lutui, who had blocked him, and it got Harris tossed from the game.

First Jackson, now Sanders means Colts have some shuffling to do

Updated Nov. 06, 2009 @ 2 p.m.
Losing CB Marlin Jackson, one of the better zone corners in the NFL, for the season was a blow. A day later, the news gets worse: ever-injured Bob Sanders also is gone.
