Rams should trade down

Tick, tock. The Rams are on the clock. And the way we hear it, they're having a helluva time  figuring out  what to do. I said  in a blog yesterday that  the selection of DE Chris Long, Howie's son, would be a safe, decent pick. Apparently, the Rams' braintrust is having a hard time deciding between Long and LSU DT Glenn Dorsey. Apparently, there are some higher-ups who aren't all that high on Long, executive VP of football operations Billy Devaney's preferred choice. The thing about Dorsey, though, is that the team seems to have fortified itself inside with the additions of rookies Adam Carriker and Clifton Ryan last year. Here's what I would do: Trade down with Atlanta at No. 3, pick up another valuable first-day pick and select Vernon Gholston, who I think fills their bigtgest need for an impact better pass rusher than either Long or Dorsey. This is hardly a novel concept; there are others in legue circles who have also suggested this  tack. I know the  Rams are under  tremendous pressure to  score big with  the No. 2 overall pick. But  they'd be scoring big at No. 3 overall with Gholston in my opinion, provided Atlanta  is willing to tango. And provided, of course, that  the Rams turn whatever  extra booty they might get for the second pick  into  something substantial.

but see the thing is that if we trade down to the number 3 pick with Atlanta and they select Matt Ryan because remember they do need a QB now here comes a harder decision for the rams to make because they now not only are they not sure on whether to draft Glenn Dorsey or Chris Long, now their not sure on who to draft between those two guys or whether or not to draft Gholston. I think they should draft Glenn Dorsey bcuz Leonard Little is up there in years yes true, but Glover isnt n e younger, and this was Leonard Little's first season since he was wat in his 2nd year in the league that he hasnt played in 10 games, its the first time since 1999 that he's put up less than 20 tackles in a season, he was hurt last season yes thats true but who wasnt hurt on the rams? last year was probably the 3rd time since becoming a starter that he's had less than 10 sacks in a season, this guy is a great talent that still has a couple of seasons left, maybe only a couple, but so does Glover and the wear and tear is gonna be alot worse on Glover because he's the same age as Leonard Little having to go up against the center and guards on the Line while Little is just gonna have to worry about the Right Tackle, so not as much wear and tear on Little which means he will last longer than La'Roi, so I think in this situation u take Glenn Dorsey. And also I kno this may sound crazy but the Rams got burned on the deep ball alot last year and alot of that came from the right side of the field I kno Tye Hill was hurt and that takes away our speed but thats no excuse because Corey Chavous should've been back to help the cornerback, and not to mention he was hurt alot last year, so I say yea he's a good safety but we trade him and a 4th rounder to a team that needs a safety for their 1st rd pick and with that pick draft Kenny Phillips from Miami, he's fast, he's a great zone safety and he rarely gets burned on the deep ball if at all. So I think that would be another move the Rams front office should consider doing.

If they traded with the Falcons and the Falcons go QB, then the Rams can trade again with the Saints at 10 and have a boat load of pics and may still get one of their guys at #10 and the Saints will be happy to walk away with the best player in the draft - Dorsey!

Bill W.:

Wow...There's no way any team would give up a 1st round pick for Corey Chavous and a 4th round pick. For the same reason you wanted to get rid of him, no team is going to give a 1st round pick for a safety in his thirties that gets burned deep and can't tackle. Trading with Atlanta for the number 3 pick is definately the way to go for Saint Louis. If the Rams can't decide between two players and Alanta is willing to give up a first day pick to move up one spot. It's a no brainer. Alanta picks Dorsey and Saint Louis gets Long or Gholston with the 3rd pick plus another first day pick. If Atlanta picks Matt Ryan, then the Rams can see if KC wants to move up for a DE(Long or Gholston) because they just traded Jared Allen. Even more picks and the Rams could still land the player they wanted at number 5.

Scott S:

Trading the second pick to me makes sense. I also agree that the rams need to address corey chavous, to me he should only be playing on running downs. I know everyone wants the rams to address the offensive line on the first day, but the rams need to draft someone that can come in and take over for chavous, no later than week 8. Thats why its extremely important to trade down, and try to pick up an extra 2nd round pick. That way the rams can address both those needs early, with hopefully impact players

rgcolo:

The Rams need an image guy for PR and bring the fans back. Take Long and move on.
