When I last left you in Blogs-ville earlier this week, I mentioned that I would be speculating on the Packers' plans under center in my next offering. What i didn't count on was my 80-year old mother falling and breaking her shoulder in three places the other night, which is why I'm just getting back hopefully into a regular blog routine right up until Draft Day. As for the Packers, the more I think about it, the more I believe they are going to use their first pick on a quarterback, which goes against what PFW's closest sources believe. The sources think that taking a QB No. 1 would be a slap in the face to Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre's heir-apparent. But they absolutely need a solid insurance policy in case Rodgers gets hurt, which is hardly out of the question considering his injury history at the pro level, and if they stay pat in the first round, they should have their pick of any of the second-tier QBs available (Chad Henne, Joe Flacco, Brian Brohm) behind the undisputed no. 1, Matt Ryan. Looking at the composition of their roster, I see no greater need at any other position.
It's still possible the Packers could trade for an established QB like Houston's Sage Rosenfels, who it would appear would be available after the Texans signed ex-Jaguar Quinn Gray. Rosenfels would fill the bill nicely behind Rodgers, but so would a Flacco or a Henne. The big-bodied Flacco is particularly intriguing. I know Ted thompson seldom deviates from the "best available athlete" approach, but he really should fill the key need for another signalcaller with a sense of urgency. And one way or the other, I suspect he will.

l.jackson to replace c. williams. no other dt got more than one sack. if possible they will trade down as will about 5 other teams at the end of round one. they still don't have nickel corner that can stay healthy. the defense has to get better.
