Sunday Various and Sundry Thoughts: The Lions as bullies? Really?

Good morning, NFL handicappers. What a glorious day.

A couple things:

♣Hey, you. Yes, you, with the Jon Kitna jersey. The Lions are laying 3-to-3.5 points at Atlanta. If you are laying three, you're paying more than -110 (betting $11 to win $10), I'm guessing. If you're laying three-and-a-half ... um, these are the Lions on the road! Calvin Johnson can't be that good, can he? The market is demanding you pay a high price to back a below-average team on the road; be very careful.

The weather doesn't look like it will be a major decision-making factor today. Take one more look at weatherunderground.com if need be, but not a lot of rain on that radar right now ...

If you are adept at predicting games that go Over, today is your time to shine. The Dallas-Cleveland total is 49; every other total, so far as I can tell, is 43.5 or lower. There's lots of worries about Week One jitters and what not, but again, the weather is generally nice around the country, and defenses get rusty too, you know.
