Panthers-Chargers: Home team getting gashed with the run

They are all of the 4-11-yard variety, but the Panthers are running the ball very consistently and forcefully against the tough defense of the Chargers. The Panthers should have scored on their second drive, failing on a busted 4th-and-goal pass to Brad Hoover, but the run is there today. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are going to be a formidable pair, it appears.

The bad news: Jeff Otah went into the locker room with an apparent knee injury.

More bad news: The refs might have blown a replay challenge when they said Philip Rivers didn't cross the line of scrimmage to complete a pass to Antonio Gates. I thought it was clear Rivers was half a yard over the line. But the officials upheld the ruling on the field, and the next play Rivers hooked up with Chris Chambers for a touchdown.

This was the key factor in the game, especially the first half. Carolina took the ball and shoved it down the Bolts' throats.
Ball control. It looks like Jamal Williams days might be numbered and that he is no longer clogging 2 or 3 guards. He also may be more injured than suspected. Matt Wilhelm and Derek Smith need to attack and support the holes better because they're are just as guilty as the d-line for this pathetic 142 yards allowed performance.
