Got back late last night from the west coast and didn't have Internet access all day Sunday, when I was working on some book stuff, so I am just now able to throw out some more odds and ends regarding this weekend's rookie event out in Los Angeles.
All in all, Mike Wilkening and I were impressed with the rookie class as a whole. For the most part, they were a very approachable and accessable group, and a few of them were very engaging in conversation, happy to talk about football now that the riffraff of the draft and the rookie minicamps were behind them.
A few leftover -- but interesting -- tidbits:
- New Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly tried to clear things up regarding his blowup over the 40-yard dash he ran at Oklahoma on a surface he wasn't expecting to: "The first time we went out and ran it, it just wasn't what I expected. I thought we were running on (another surface), what I had been training for. So to come out and do that, there's a lot on the line, and my mind wasn't as into it as it should have been. But I came back the next time and ran better the second time. But everybody still wants to talk about the first time. But it's cool. The Redskins showed a lot of interest in me throughout the whole process, before and after the Pro Day. I feel like things worked out."
- Falcons WR Harry Douglas has a plan for his life after football -- he wants a job in corporate law. "I graduated before my senior year and worked in a law firm from like May to December. It was a great experience. I have wanted to be a lawyer since I was like four years old. So I took pride in that. I went to a lot of depositions and trials and things. It's going to be a big thing after football. But right now, this is the prime of my life, and I am focusing on football. But life after football, I plan on being successful, too."

- Dolphins QB Chad Henne on when he finally felt healthy after an injury-plagued senior season: "Probably the Florida game, the bowl game. Being healthy definitely gave me a boost, getting back with a good gameplan and getting ready to go. We had such high expectations coming into our senior year, but it worked out differently than we expected. I played well in the game, I was finally healthy, and it all came together. I am glad we finished strong. And all that carried over to the postseason for me, the Senior Bowl and things like that."
- Packers WR Jordy Nelson said he was a little caught off guard going to Green Bay, which is loaded at receiver, as the team's top pick: "Not really (where I pictured going). I talked to them a little bit only at the Combine and they caught me off guard a little (on Draft Day). But I am glad I am there, I think it's a great fit and I hope I am there a long time."
- And Nelson on (likely) not getting the chance to pla with Brett Favre: "It crossed my mind. It's crossing all of our minds. Obvously, the type of quarterback he was, one of the best ever, there's a little disappointment not getting to play with him, but I think everyone is looking forward to a new era with Aaron Rodgers. He has had some time to learn behind Brett, so I think he's ready."
