The Dallas Cowboys re-signed running back Marion Barber and cornerback Terence Newman today. Terms of the agreements were not released.
Barber signed to seven-year deal today.
Barber was a fourth-round selection by Dallas in the 2004 NFL Draft. He earned his first Pro Bowl in 2007 after recording career-highs in both carries (204) and rushing yards (975) with 10 rushing touchdowns. He also had 44 receptions for 282 yards and two touchdowns. He earned his first start of the season against the N.Y. Giants (1/13/08) in the divisional playoff game and responded with a career-high 129 rushing yards on a career-high tying 27 carries with one touchdown. His 129 rushing yards were the sixth-most in a playoff game in team history. For his career, Barber has 477 carries for 2,167 yards with 29 rushing touchdowns along with 85 receptions for 593 receiving yards with four scores.
Newman signed to a six-year extension today.
Newman was the fifth overall pick by Dallas in the 2003 NFL Draft. Since joining the Cowboys he has established himself as one of the top corners in the league. Newman earned his first Pro Bowl selection following the 2007 season after recording four interceptions - one returned for a touchdown, 62 tackles and 15 pass breakups in 13 games with 11 starts. He missed three games due to a heel injury - his first game missed in his five-year NFL career. For his career, he has totaled 16 interceptions, 344 tackles and 69 pass breakups in 77 games with 75 starts. He has also served as one of the team's punt returners recording 36 returns for 296 yards and one score.
