I did a radio show last night where the host made a joke about the Dolphins using their entire 10 minutes, even though Jake Long was signed, sealed and delivered. And I thought for a second and said back to him, "They should."
Why? The Dolphins were 1-15 last year. They had a miserable season. The offseason has been better, though, and there's a muted optimism going around this franchise right now. They just swung a deal late last night to get two Bill Parcells/Jeff Ireland/Tony Sparano players -- LB Akin Ayodele and TE Anthony Fasano -- and now are poised to make some waves today.
They'll use up, oh, I'd say at least eight of those allotted 10 minutes to get both ESPN and NFL Network to talk about the Dolphins, to get the fires stoked a bit. Bill Parcells might not have been a marketing major in college, but he knows that this team needs some positive mojo -- even eight minutes' worth. They are kicking off the draft, but waiting those extra few minutes could be the kind of thing that generates a little more talk about Miami next season.
Just a thought.
