Let the rumors and speculation begin ...
Is Brett Favre thinking about playing next season? For another team? Say it ain't so.
The Los Angeles Times' Sam Farmer, a heavy hitter in our business, is reporting that league sources have said
that Favre quietly is angling to return to the league and would consider playing for another team.
Among my readers, Kazman is the one I expect to be most excited about the news.
Forget whether you think it's a good idea. I assume most of you don't think it is. Let's play armchair GM for a minute ... who would be interested? There's a one-year gig open in Miami, which would be fairly close to home and plenty warm for his old bones. Atlanta offers the same kind of amenities. Both are bad teams with jobs open. Who do you think would he fit best with?
That is, assuming there is truth to this rumor. Let the fun begin.

I think someone missed April Fool's Day by a couple of days.
Other than that, why on earth would he subject himself to the misery of playing for a bad team (I'm saying this as a Falcons fan, alas) when he could have returned to a potentially playoff caliber team like Green Bay?
Not to mention that given the emotional statements made when he retired, this would really tarnish his legacy (such as it is to most)because it would look like nothing so much as a pointless cash grab. And boy would it alienate all those Cheeseheads that loved him so much for so long.
This makes very little sense on any level.

Bretts a Packer forever - be it a player or a retiree. If he did change his mind, he would do it as a Packer. Too many ties and foundations in Green Bay. Also, the only chance for him to make the Super Bowl would be in Green Bay. He would not play for a loser just to play. He's retired, now let him be retired.

If Brett Favre were to come back with another one of the above mentioned names and win a Super Bowl, he would officially set in stone, "Greatest QB of All Time". BUT WHY? He is what the Green Bay Packer, he is the defenition of a Green Bay Packer & that is that.
Brett, make the announcement, "I made a mistake & I'm coming back to win a SUPER BOWL RING with the Green Bay Packers" We forgive you man, now let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you serious? We had to listen to him sob like a a girl who lost her retainer for a 3rd straight season for this? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? GO, LEAVE, GO LIVE OUT YOUR DAYS ON YOUR HICK FARM. ENOUGH! 1 Superbowl you cannot call him the greatest QB of all time. Sorry, he's a glorified Dan Marino.

Okay, let's set a couple things straight first. Yes I do live in Wisconsin. No, the Pack is not my first allegiance as I am a transplant. Now that that is out of the way.....
An "unnamed source???" Please. Who's the source, Al Davis, & he can't say his name because he forgot it? Favre's agent, Bus Cook has vehemently denied this, & don't give me the "retirement papers aren't filed" junk. Retirement papers entitle a retired player to begin to collect his pension. I doubt Brett is worried about the ten grand a year.
I am not going to open the can of whether he was or was not the best QB ever. Too many eras, too many guys & sometimes too many personal preferences go into that. What I will say is this. I've watched the NFL for over 40 years. Favre was by far the most durable guy I have ever seen at the QB position, & undoubtedly one of the very toughest ever as well. And, he arguably did it with far less to work with than most of the guys you'd put at the top of the "best ever" list. Quick, name one, just one, Hall of Fame caliber offensive player Brett played with for half of his career. If you can't, there's a good reason for that. There were none. For that matter, he played with one Hall of Fame player, & that was Reggie White, & he was not with Favre for the majority of his career. It would probably be accurate to say Favre lifted the level of his team as much, if not more than, any QB of his era. Would the Packers have been almost perennial playoff contenders if not for Favre? I daresay not. But, as far as him coming back, I do not believe it will happen, & frankly, I hope it doesn't. I'd prefer not to see this become another "Michael Jordan" saga, at least not more than it has been.

Always wanted Favre in a Buccaneer uniform. Traded for him countless times as a Madden player. He is not coming back folks. He is done. God bless the most exciting player to ever play his posistion. Godspeed Brett.

Don't do it Brett. All you could do is tarnish your image. If you want to play again, go back to Green Bay. They are a contender. Atlanta and Tampa Bay are not. Better to quit on a high note than look like Joe Montana did in Kansas City.

You don't understand. The reason Favre would come back is that he loves the game. It wouldn't matter that the team is not a contender. In fact, he would relish it more if he could play on an underdog team. For people like Brett, the challenge is in overcoming the odds against him.
Let me say this: Brett would lift any under performing team into a playoff contender. He has that much influence on his teammates.
