I could chalk it up to arrogance, but what Pacman Jones is doing these days counts for stupidity in my mind.
Go on the radio, talk breezily about how great it would be to play for the Cowboys with Mike Irvin ... go to a charity hoops game and make asinine comments about his current (former) team ... it's what you get when you deal with this guy.
Think evaluators overrate character when they scout players? Not in this day and age. Packrat Jones is a prime example to that.
I admit I went on Dallas radio last night and said that the price in terms of salary and compensation would be low for the Cowboys, if indeed they did procure his services. But they have to know what they are getting with Pacman, the total package. He never will be a team guy. A former teammate of his explained in detail to me his selfish behavior in the locker room. Talent? Yes, Jones has plenty. Brains? Few that I can tell. Scruples? Perhaps fewer. Consider yourself warned, Cowboys.
A gem from the celebrity hoops game: Pacman said he should be traded for a first-round pick. That's good thinking, Pac. Weaken the team you hope to join. If it were me, I would say my would-be team should give up the least possible for my services. I don't think Randy Moss is poo-pooing the fact he was deal for a fourth-round pick that ended up being a guy named John Bowie.
Look, the guy can play football, but I think even that is in some question in terms of his immediate returns. He hasn't taken a snap in a year and a half. It'll be two seasons away from the game, and that's if -- a monster if, wouldn't you say? -- the commish lets the guy play in July.
If you're Roger Goodell, why are you in any hurry to let this guy back in your league? He has played fast and loose with the guidelines you have given him, and Pacman has displayed an audacious sense of entitlement the past few days, campaigning to be let back in. What penance has he shown? How contrite is he? The answer to both is very little, if any.
Paul Kuharsky, PFW's Titans correspondent, makes an excellent and economic blog entry about Pac, the anti-Benji Olson.
If you sell out to make a Super Bowl, as the Cowboys appear poised to do, this is what you are willing to sacrifice: a little dignity.

Pacman would be right at home in Dallas. I understand the strip clubs there are some of the best.
